Desiree Dolron - installation view
Gaze
In her series Gaze (1996-1998), Dolron experiments with the same concept of sensory suspension employed in the Exaltation series, this time by photographing her subjects underwater, achieving an ephemeral interruption of bodily awareness. Immersed in the blurry background of deep water, the photographed subjects facial expressions reflect the temporary suspension of breath, while their bodily positions testify of a sudden, yet delicate, immobilization. The achievement of a brief numbing of senses is framed by Dolron as a physical means to reach a deeper level of consciousness, which goes beyond the physical in order to gain closeness to the transcendent.
